Accountability Starts Now

Today I start my journey, and my accountability.

I'm 278.0 pounds today. I'm 39 years old. I'm 5' 8.5" tall. My inseam is 27", but my waist is 46". I have a hard time chasing my toddler around. I can't sleep on my stomach and breath at the same time.

I have the Lose It! app on my phone, and have started logging my meals. My goal is to get to 180 pounds in a year or less. If I lose 2 pounds per week, this app says I can do it by November 2013.

  1. This is great, Brad! I have been on a similar track and I've lost about 15 lbs in the last 5 months.

If I can give one piece of advice, just stick with it and do not give in! There will be weeks when you will not lose anything, and may even gain a little back. This is normal and you can't let that discourage you. The first thing you will start to lose is the water weight and then it sort of levels off for a bit. If you find it difficult to lose weight for a couple of weeks, just concentrate on getting in the habit of eating right, mostly with portion control and drinking a lot of water. Then you will at least stabilize and not gain any. It is a long and difficult task, but the most rewarding things never come easy! Also, it's not all about salads and fiber. Set small goals and then treat yourself to something you enjoy when you reach that goal. Have a doughnut or couple of pieces of pizza or whatever it is that you crave. Denying yourself these things will only set you up for disaster when you get discouraged and fall back on bad habits. I don't even crave sweets and fast food anymore by doing it this way. I've learned over the last couple of years while trying to eat better, that it isn't so much what you are eating but how much of it you eat. One thing that has really helped me is eating an apple after each meal. I know it seems cheesy, but apples really are a miracle fruit. They have a lot of fiber for absorbing cholesterol and extra fats. They also have digestive enzymes and acids that prevent foods from fermenting in your stomach. I had really bad acid re-flux and it is totally gone after an apple after a meal.

You probably already know most of this, but thought I would throw in my support! Let's help each other!

    1. Changing habits is my main goal right now. Portion control, increasing my water intake, decreasing my diet soda intake, and things like that. I'd never heard of the apple thing, I'll have to look into that. I have acid reflux disease, and take Prilosec every day (even though it gives me chronic headaches).

      Thanks for your support!
